Last week my Mom and I tried somewhere new in Provo. It's called Las Tarascas. It's in Provo right near the Albertsons and Pudding on the Rice (another wonderful place). The address is 2255 North University Parkway. It also won best of state two years in a row-06 and 07 in the casual dining area. The best Mexican casual dining restaurant for the whole state! I head it on the radio-they claimed to be 110% authentic. I wanted to check that out.
We went in telling the waiter that we were from San Diego and have not found anything here that even touches what we are used to with a ten foot pole. Next thing we knew a man with a thick Spanish accent came up and said that this place is better then anything we have had in So Cal and believe him he has eaten in San Diego. To make a long story short, his name was Alfonzo Lopez and he was the owner. Born and raised in Mexico. His family moved to Utah three years ago with the desire for a better life and to grow up in a place with better morals then they had in the are of Northen California where they were living. They bought a house and opened Las Tarascas.
Their food was wonderful! I had a bottle of Mexican Coke (made with corn syrup not sugar like ours is-less sweet but still good), and the Enchilada Rojos. My Mom had their Chili Reino-not to spicy, very yummy. He also brought us out some Tacos Al Pastor on the house. These were shredded pork with pineapple, and a wonderful mango salsa. His wife is the cook during the day and they often travel to Guadalajara where they grew up and bring new recipes back. If you love Mexican food you need to try them! It was amazing and I cannot wait to go back and get more of those tacos! Plates ranges from the $6-$8 range. They had combos that were in the $10-13 range but you got tons of food! Their guacamole was yummy and was in the $3 range for a good amount to share!
